Migronis — SEO Recovery After an Unsuccessful CMS Migration

Migronis is an international investment-migration agency that helps clients obtain second citizenship and residency permits through investment.

After an unsuccessful migration from WordPress to a custom CMS, the website lost a significant part of its organic visibility and traffic. I joined the project in June 2024 to restore the site’s SEO foundation, recover lost pages and rankings, and restart organic growth.

By October 2024, monthly organic clicks increased from 644 to 12,681.

Challenge: Recovering Organic Visibility After a Failed Migration

In November 2023, the Migronis website was migrated from WordPress to a custom CMS designed for informational websites. The migration significantly disrupted the site’s existing SEO foundation.

  • The website structure was completely changed
  • Many URLs were changed without redirects
  • Some pages were migrated without their language versions
  • Some pages were not migrated at all
  • Previously indexed URLs with established rankings and backlinks were lost

As a result, organic traffic dropped sharply after the migration.

I joined the project in June 2024, around seven months after the migration, when the website was still operating with the consequences of these changes. The main priority was to recover lost organic visibility by restoring important parts of the previous SEO structure and rebuilding the site’s search performance.

My Role

I worked on the project as an SEO Specialist, responsible for:

  • Technical SEO analysis and recovery planning
  • Preparing tasks for the development team and controlling implementation
  • Coordinating content recovery and new content production
  • Monitoring search performance and adjusting the recovery plan based on results

The recovery required close coordination between SEO, development, marketing, and content teams, especially for technical changes to the custom CMS.

SEO Approach

01

Restored the URL structure

The new CMS introduced a different URL structure without proper redirects. I pushed to restore the previous structure where possible, including bringing back original URLs that already had search history and backlinks. Google reindexed many of these pages quickly, and some returned to the first page of search results shortly after restoration.

02

Recovered and optimized key pages

I restored important investment program pages, improved their structure, and applied on-page SEO. Missing language versions were also recovered where needed.

03

Rebuilt content performance

Together with the content team, I restored previously successful articles, updated outdated information, and optimized new content where there was relevant search demand. Link building was added later in the recovery process.

Results

In five months, monthly organic clicks increased from 644 in June 2024 to 12,681 in October 2024 — almost 20x growth.

Outcome

The project moved from a severe post-migration decline to sustained organic recovery and growth.

By the end of my five-month engagement, the website had regained a much stronger SEO foundation, and organic performance continued to improve after the project ended.
